Two red cards in keen game

APS Bank Under 17 Section A

Floriana    2

Birkirkara    1

A very fast , keen and entertaining game as both sides had their very good moments . Referee Jonathan Bonello had a very difficult game to control and also showed two red cards just before the end.

The Stripes were the first to threaten as Alessio Azzopardi dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and Greens keeper Jake Taliana neutralised the ball from his cross-shot, while at the other end Steven Grima dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner from his cross.

In another action by Birkirkara Romario Camilleri released Ayrton Attard on the left flank and Taliana saved his effort from the edge of the area and Floriana came close to open the score in the 21st minute when Denilson Borg Castaldi missed the bar by inches from outside the area after dribbling past an opponent.

Another action was then created by Birkirkara as Attard dribbled past an opponent and Taliana saved his shot from the distance in two attempts in the 27th minute and four minutes later Mattia Zarb released Borg Castaldi in the area and the ball missed the upright from his shot with Stripes keeper Kurt Polidano beaten.

Just before the half time whistle Birkirkara forged ahead. Neil Micallef was fouled on the left flank and after Alessio Azzopard floated a high ball in the area from the free kick a Greens defender handled the ball and Attard made no mistake from the penalty spot.

In the first action after the break Borg Castaldi set Steven Grima free on the right flank and he missed the bar by inches and Birkirkara won a free kick on the left flank after Azzopardi was fouled and after the free kick by Kyle Mifsud, Taliana saved a header by Brian Mifsud.

In the 57th minute Floriana equalised as Borg Castaldi dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and following his cross in the area substitute Juan Muscat scored with a hard low drive, and minutes later

Polidano saved a shot from the distance by Borg Castaldi after he was served with a through ball by substitute Jean Claude Meilak.

In the 63rd minute Birkirkara  won a corner on the right flank which was well-taken by Attard and after a Greens defender cleared the ball to another corner the referee ordered a goal kick.

Zack Camilleri was then fouled on the left flank a Stripes defender headed the ball away from the free kick by Loumar Cutajar.

In the third minute of added time Juan Muscat was fouled on the right flank and following this action a free-for-all ensued and after calm was resumed the referee showed the red card to Floriana player Juan Muscat and Birkirkara player Karl Caruana for coming to blows. Zack Camilleri floated a high ball in the area from the free kick and Borg Castaldi scored a dramatic winner with a hard and low diagonal drive.
