APS Bank Under 15 Knock Out First Leg

Luqa 4

Gzira 0

The final score is a clear indication that Luqa were the much better side during the game which they dominated as they created much more actions than Gzira, and their keeper Justin Camilleri saved them from a much heavier defeat with very good saves.

Luqa applied the early pressure as they created six actions in a row. Ronan Cassar released Matthias Caruana on the right flank and a defender cleared the ball to a corner. Cassar then set Caruana through and after the latter’s shot was partly cleared Camilleri saved the rebound shot by Jake Sammut.

Cassar was in action again as he dribbled past two opponents and he missed the upright from outside the area and from a flag kick by the same player the ball was cleared away with difficulty, and the pressure by Luqa resumed as Caruana released Miguel Pace on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner.

In the first action by Gzira after 19 minutes Youssef Mohammed crossed the ball from the right flank but the ball was neutralize by Luqa keeper Nicholas Attard.

After a run down the right flank by Caruana, Camilleri saved his close-range shot from inside the area, and in another action by Gzira Kyle Edwards crossed from the right to Neil Borg and Luqa keeper Nicholas Attard saved his shot from inside the area.

In the 24th minute Luqa deservedly opened the score as Caruana dribbled past an opponent and released Miguel Pace in the area who scored with a hard low shot.

The last two actions before the break were created by Gzira. Oktay Hasan served Jake Formosa with a through ball and Attard had to come out of his charge to kick the ball away to safety and Hasan then put Edwards through in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner.

Luqa went straight on the offensive after the resumption. Caruana entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and Camilleri saved his close-range shot and he did like-wise moments later on a shot by Pace after a Travis Gerada through ball. Sean Mifsud the floated a perfect high ball in the area from a free kick and Camilleri turned the ball to a corner on a shot by Cassar, the same player then pounced on a faulty clearance and Camilleri denied him with a diving save to a corner.

The score became 2-0 in the 50th minute when Jake Sammut dribbled past an opponent on the right flank who crossed to Caruana in the area who netted with a low shot.

Cassar then pounced on a faulty drop-kick by Camilleri and from his hard drive the ball hit the upper part of the bar and finished out.

In the 64th minute Luqa scored a third goal as substitute Joelant Aquilina released Miguel Pace in the area and he scroed with a hard rising shot, and in the third minute of added time the score became 4-0 when Cassar released Aquilina in the area and he scored with a hard low drive.
