This game,  which was played at a very fast pace was watched by a large and well-behaved crowd at Luxol Ground and was well controlled by young and promising referee Mark Degaura. Valletta enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges in the first period while after the resumption it was a balanced affair. Floriana will play in the Quarter Final against Ħamrun.

The first action was created by Floriana after three minutes as Mattia Zarb served Zack Camilleri with a cross in the area and Valletta keeper Miguel Bonnici saved his header and two minutes later they opened the score when they won a corner kick on the left flank which was well-taken by Isaac Micallef  and Camilleri scored with a low drive from inside the area and  they nearly doubled in the 10th minute when Camilleri pounced on a faulty clearance who missed the upright after entering the area.

Valletta reacted as they won three free kicks in a row. A free kick by Leonard Farrugia was headed away after Orson Mackay was fouled outside the area. Floriana keeper Jake taliana saved the free kick by Miguel Ghio after Jeremy Micallef was fouled outside the area and another free kick by Ghigo was headed away after Mackay was fouled on the right flank.

In another action by Floriana on the half hour Mattia Zarb hugged the right edge of the area after a run down the right flank and Bonnici saved his hard grounder.

Valletta then won a corner kick on the right flank and the cross by Ismael Grima created havoc but somehow the ball was cleared away to safety,and four minutes before thr break Valletta equalised when Jeremy Micallef was fouled on the right edge of the area and following the free kick by Ghigo, Mackay scored with a header.

Valletta mounted the first action after restart when Mackay served Micallef with a through ball in the area and Taliana foiled him with a timely sortie while at the other end Camilleri dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and a defender cleared the ball away from his cross.

Two actions were then created by Valletta. Seyown Zammit was fouled outside the area and Ghigo drove well over the bar from the free kick and a flag kick by Ghigo was cleared to another corner.

Floriana defender Jake Stenson, upwith his forwards, served Mattia Zarb with a through ball on the laeft flank and Jake Borg foiled him with a timely tackle.

In the 57th minute Floriana re-established their one-goal lead when they won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Micallef, his in-swinger created havoc in Valletta’s area and Mattia Zarb darted in the area and shot the ball in the roof of the net.

In another action by Floriana Mattia Zarb drove slightly out from inside the area after a flag kick by Camilleri, at the other end a flag kick by Ghigo caused havoc in the Green’s area but the ball was cleared away.

In the 71st minute the score nearly became 3-1 when Matthias Zarb wasa fouled on the right flank and following the free kick by Jamie Delia, from a low shot by Stenson the ball was cleared on the line to a corner.

In an action by Valletta, Taliana neutralised the ball from a cross by Farrugia after he was put through on the right flank byOwen Agius, and in the last action before the end by Floriana Loumar Cutajar served Matthias Zarb with a through ball in the area and Bonnici foiled him as he dived at his feet.
