Xgħajra   0

Fgura       1

This game was decided by a controversial goal scored from a very clear off side position. After a balanced first period Xghajra were the better outfit after the resumption but failed to convert their superiority in goals.

Fgura were the first to threaten as Aiken Desira released Kieran Farrugia in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner and the cross by Desira created havoc in Xgħajra’s area but the ball was cleared away.

In a reaction by Xgħajra they mounted two actions. Neil Darmanin served Gareth Buttigieg in the area and he missed the upright by inches and Joel Delia was fouled in midfield and the ball was cleared away with difficulty from the free kick by Michael Scicluna.

Fgura threatened again.  Desira served Nicholai Peresso in the area and he drove slightly out and Desira released Farrugia in the area and Xgħajra keeper Wayne Darmanin foiled him with a timely sortie as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball, and at the other end a flag kick by Neil Darmanain created havoc in Fgura’s area but the ball was somehow cleared away to safety.

In the 22nd minute Fgura opened the score as Desira served Farrugia with a through ball, who was standing in a clear off side position which went unnoticed by assistant Joseph Cilia, who scored with a low drive after entering the area.

The last action before the break was also created by Fgura as Darmanin saved in two attempts a free kick shot by Nigel Ferriggi after the same player was fouled outside the area.

Soon after the restartFgura keeper Glenn Camilleri saved a close-range shot by Jake Maliia after a cross from the right flank by Neil Darmanin, while at the other endDesira served Farrugia with a through ball but he was foiled from further progression by a timely tackle by Clayton Camilleri.

Xgħajra then mounted three actions in a row. Jake Mallia dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and Camilleri neutralised the ball from his dangerous cross, the asme palyer then entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and a defedner cleared the ball in extremis and Michael scicluna floated a perfect high ball in the area from a free kick and Delia drove slightly out from inside the area.

Fgura then won a free kick outside the area after a foul on Desira and after the ball hit the defensive barrier from the free kick shot by Matthias Muscat the same player drove well over the bar from the rebound.

In another action by Xgħajra Reve Mizzi dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and Camilleri saved his hard drive with a diving save to a corner.

Four minutes before the end Fgura came very close to double as Ferriggi served Farrugia in the area but Darmanin saved his close-range hard drive.
