Mgarr inflicted the first defeat on Rabat and they fully deserved the verdict as they were the better outfit while Rabat were only a shadow of their usual selves.

This game, played at Mgarr Ground was attended by a very large crowd. Mgarr now lead the standings on maximum points from 8 games and Rabat are in second place on 21 points from same number of games.

Rabat applied the early pressure. Christian Farrugia served Nicolae Chetcuti with a through ball and he missed the bar from outside the area and Max Bonavia set Chetcuti through, the latter returned the compliment to Aleandro Brincau on the right flank who then crossed to Farrugia in the area but he drove over the bar.

In the first action by Mgarr in the 11th minute they opened the score.  Christian Camilleri was fouled outside the area and Matteo De Pasquale gave Rabat keeper Kieran Brincau no chance with a hard rising shot in the top left hand corner of the net from 40 metres.

Three minutes later Mgarr doubled their lead as Christian Camilleri served Zack Camilleri with a through ball, who was in a clear offside position which went unnoticed by assistant Keith Buhagiar, and as Brincau came out of his charge to narrow the angle he scored with a low drive into an empty net.

In an action by Rabat Brincat dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner from his cross.

In the 19th minute Mgarr came very close a third goal when Luke Galea released Zack Camilleri in the area and he missed the upright by inches.

Rabat tried very hard to get back in the game as they mounted three actions before the break. Mark Asciak served Chetcuti with a through ball outside the area and a defender cleared his shot to a corner. Farrugia entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and after Mgarr keeper Ron Bonsfield partly saved his shot the ball was cleared and Chetcuti then released Brincat in the area and after Bonsfield partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away.

The first action after the restart was created by Rabat. Asciak served substitute Ayrton Muscat with a through ball in the area who then square-passed the ball to Brincat and Bonsfield saved his close-range shot, from the same action, Bonsfiled served substitute John Attard with a long drop kick who the served Zack Camilleri with a through ball and Brincau had to come out of his charge to kick the ball away to safety.

Rabat then created two actions. Asciak was fouled outside the area and Bonsfield saved the free kick shot by the same player , the same player was again fouled outside the area and Bonsfiled saved in two attempts the free kick by Farrugia.

In another action by Mgarr Zack Camilleri receieved the ball from a long clearance who after advancing he missed the bar by inches with a lobbed ball.

In the last action by Rabat Asciak served Gianluca Bugeja with a square pass outside the area and Bonsfield had to dive and save his hard drive.

Five minutes before the end Mgarr put the issue beyond any doubt with a choral move between three palyers. Attard released De Pasquale in the area who then square-passed the ball to Luke Galea and scored with a low diagonal shot.
