APS Bank Under 15 Knock Out First Leg Balzan   3 – B’Bugia    0

 

Balzan were the better outfit during the game as they created more occasions than B’Bugia, so superior were Balzan that B’Bugia managed only three shots, one of which was from a free kick.

 

After only two minutes Balzan won a corner kick on the right flank which was taken by Kyle Zarb who served Nathan Sciberras with a short pass and the ball was cleared after his shot from the edge of the area, at the other end, Owen Pace was fouled outside the area and Balzan keeper Gerson Mifsud save the free kick shot by Andre’ Busuttil.

 

In the 4th minute Balzan drew first blood as Neil Baldacchino served Liam Fenech with a through ball and despite being harassed by two opponents he entered the area and scored with a hard diagonal drive past B’Bugia keeper Ristan Schembri.

 

In an action by B’Bugia, Miguel Buttigieg served Owen Pace with a through ball and after his effort from outside the area was partly cleared Darren Camilleri drove over the bar from the rebound.

 

Balzan regained the initiative and created two actions. Zarb served Sciberras with a short corner pass and after he crossed the ball in the area Schebri saves as a shot by Morgan Grima from the left edge of the area and Sciberras served Fenech with a through ball who entered the area after out-speeding a defender and drove over the bar from a very ideal position.

 

In the 20th minute Balzan doubled their lead as Isaac Briffa served Fenech with a through ball and after side-stepping a defender he entered the area and scored aith a ahrd and low diagonal drive.

 

The pressure from Balzan resumed as they mounted two more actions. After a run down the right flank by Sciberras he served Zarb with a cross in the area and after the ball thumped the upright from his hard drive Fenech drove over the bar from the rebound and Sciberras released Fenech in the area and Schembri dived at his feet and smothered the ball.

 

B’bugia mouted the last action before the break as Benjamin Battistino set Pace free in the area and Balzan keeper Gerson Mifssud foiled him from further progression as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball.

 

The second period was less action-packed with the first two being created by Balzan. Stefano Schembri pounced on a faulty clearance and Schembri saved his shot from the edge of the area and Sciberras released Schembri in the area and the ball cleared to a corner from his shot.

 

In action by B’Bugia Pace was fouled outside the area and the ball was headed away following the free kick by Marco Planojevic.

 

In the 56th minute Balzan came very close a third goal when after a flag kick by Schembri the ball missed the upright from a header by substitute Jeremy Sullivan, at the other end moments later Planojevic released Pace in the area and Mifsud saved his shot.

 

In another action by Balzan Morgan Grima released Schembri on the right flankwho then served Fenech in the area but Schembri foiled him with a perfect timely sortie.

 

Nine minutes before the end Balzan put the issue beyond any doubt as they scored a third goal as Grima served Fenech with a through ball in the area who made no mistake with a hard low drive after advancing.
