Melita lead the standings having maximum  points from  four games while Birżebbuġa are still pointless also from four games. Most of the actions during the game were created by Melita and their short passing and one-touch football were a delight to watch.

As early as the fifth minute Birżebbuġa keeper Jeremy Azzopardi saved a free kick shot by Matthew De Battista after Jamie Dimech was fouled outside the area and at the other end after a solo run down the right flank by Aidan Spiteri Melita keeper Mike Micallef neutralised the ball from his cross.

Melita then mounted three more actions. Nick Cutajar served De Battista in the area and keeper Azzopardi foiled him with a timely sortie in two attempts and he did likewise minutes later by foiling Karl Mohnani after a Dimech through ball, and Thomas Grixti was fouled on the left edge of the area and the ball was cleared to a corner from the free kick by Liam Delicata.

In another action by Birżebbuġa Spiteri out-sped a defender on the right flank and Micallef had to dive and save the ball from his cross.

In the 32nd minute Melita forged ahead when De Battista dribbled past an opponent just outside the area and after the ball was partly cleared from his shot Mohnani scored from the rebound with a hard low drive past Birżebbuġa keeper Jeremy Azzopardi.

Three minutes before the break Birżebbuġa came very close an equaliser when Brendon Magro released Spiteri in the area who after selling the dummy to the on-rushing keeper the ball was cleared away by a defender following his shot.

Six minutes after the restart Melita doubled their lead when Nick Cutajar  dribbled past an opponent and released Timothy Camilleri on the edge of the area who scored with a hard rising shot, and minutes later Azzopardi foiled Thomas Borg in two attempts after being put through in the area by Matthew Tortell.

In an action by Birżebbuġa Omar Eliada served Spiteri on the right flank who after entering the area drove slightly over the bar.

In the last action before the end Mohnani was fouled outside the area and Azzopardi saved in two attepmts the free kick by Delicata.
