The Women’s National  football team led by ex-International player Pierre Brincat suffered a 2-0 defeat to Turkey in a match played at the Centenary Stadium as part of FIFA Women’s World Cup Group 5.

As expected the Turks controlled the majority of the game but the Malta side was well organized and our opponents were finding it very difficult to penetrate the Malta defense which was led well by captain and central defender Rebecca D’Agostino. The Turks scored on the 22 minute by Yagmur with the second goal than sank Malta coming again from the same player on the 57th minute.

Malta had many open score chances especially from set pieces from which the Maltese girls could have easily scored. Nina Dimech the Maltese keeper made some superb saves through the game confirming herself as the top keeper in the local football women’s scenario despite she is going into her 50’s.

Malta’s next game in this group will be again against Turkey away on April 11.
