Win for Gudja, Marsaxlokk and Zejtun share the spoils

Gudja United stunned promotion challengers Vittoriosa Stars as they get the better of the Stars in a five goals thriller. Aleksandrov opened the score from the penalty box as goalkeeper Matthias Vella was sent off after he tripped Ryan Sell in the box.

Vittoriosa equalised on the 55 th minute by Roberto Brincat, Gudja restore two goal lead by Aleksandrov as he net his first hat trick of the campaign. Four minutes before the end of the match Mark Barbara pull one back for the Stars. Gudja join host of clubs on three points from two matches.

On Saturday Luxol St Andrews continued their perfect start to the season when they beaten Birxzebbugia St Peter’s 3-1 on their home soil. Luxol St Andrew’s now have 6 points and joined Pieta Hotspurs on top the table.

The goals was scored by Rumen Kerekov, Trajo Grozev and Joseph Farrugia. Vinnie Dos Santos scored for Birzebbugia.

In the other match Lija Athletics’ and Mqabba shared the spoils in 1-1 draw. It was the first point for coach Albert Busutill, while Lija now have 4 points from 2 games.

Abeb Williams opened the score for Mqabba, but Lija hit back by former Zejtun striker Amadeo Mercieca.

On Friday Naxxar Lions registered their first win of the season as they beaten Dingli 2-1. It was the second defeat of the season for the Swallows.

The lions open the score as Andre Rocha Dos Santos scored from the penalty spot and Dingli manage to equalized by David. On the 90th minute youngster Darren Falzon scored the winner. Debutant Angus Buhagiar  was sent off for two yellow cards.

In the second match Pieta Hotspurs earned a 4-1 win against Gzira United. Rafeal Kooh Sohna was the hero for Pieta Hotspurs as he bags a hat trick, the other goal was scored by Quilin Refalo. Simon Shead was the score for the Maroons.

Pieta Hotspurs are now the leaders of the first division as they are on 6 points from two matches, while the Maroons suffered their second loss of the season and are still searching to collect their first point of the season.
