After a short break, William Vella returned with some superb shooting to win the latest ‘mixed’ Air-Rifle competition in great style. He scored 575 /600 which is 5 points above the Olympic Minimum Qualifying Score to win this event ahead of Michael Xuereb who won 2nd place with 536 points -a personal best score. Rose Anne Xerri also obtained a personal best score of 517 points to win a merited third place. Annabel Borg also shot very well after a long absence from the shooting scene, but could only manage 4th place with 501 points against such stiff competiton.

In the ‘mixed’ Air-Pistol event, Ray Cacciattolo took the lead with a score of 547 ahead of Eleanor Bezzina who, with a score of 527, had to settle for 2nd place. Another personal best score achieved by Anthony Mifsud landed him on the podium for the first time with a score of 524 points just 3 points short of Bezzina. Josette Calleja (501points), Martin Grech (495 points) and Charles Wallbank (474 points) finished in 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively.

It is with great satisfaction to note the good scores and personal bests achieved by the shooters especially in the Air-Rifle shooting discipline and this augurs very well to their future participation in the international competitions coming up very soon.

The competitions were judged by Gino Galea and assisted by John Galea and Lawrence Darmanin.
