Goals, goals, goals!

There’s nothing quite like the elation that accompanies the sight of your team putting the ball in the back of the net. With jubilation, you celebrate your side making the ultimate mark on a game, taking into control the destiny of a match; teams can create as many as 20 chances and as little as one, but in the end all that matters is the goal. It is that one word which determines the fate of your team. Chances, possession, fouls. All are irrelevant in comparison.

Now while a goal is important in the context of the scoreboard, with unparalleled influence on your team’s standing in the league, it is also important to the goalscorer. Usually the province of centre forwards, they oppose each other in the competition to be considered master of their trade and attain personal glory. I am talking, of course, about the Maltese Premier League’s Golden Boot Award. And so far this season, we’ve had striking indications that it will be more hotly contested than ever.

Who then will win?

Obinna Obiefule or Edison Dos Santos? One certain things is for another year the goalscorer will be a foreigner.
