Weekend water polo roundup

Neptunes Emirates overcame Exiles Jet Services with a 16-5 scoreline on Friday evening to maintain their unbeaten streak this season and hold on to the top spot, while rivals Sliema Mc Donalds beat San Giljan Firetech 10-7 on Saturday to maintain the pressure on the Reds.

Neptunes, who were coming from a formidable win against Sliema last weekend, did not start off with the same intensity that they faced Sliema with, and in fact they were 2-0 in the first session. But the Balluta side upped their game, and once Cosmin Bonca picked up his third personal foul at the end of the first session, Neptunes never looked back. Steve Camilleri had a fine day in the pool, netting 6 goals, while his younger brother Jordan and triple Olympic champion Molnar got 3 each.

Following their 14-11 loss to Neptunes, Sliema came back with a win against San Giljan that kept them 2 points under Neptunes in the league table. Bogdan Rath and John Soler were Sliema’s points of force, spearheading the blues to a 7-2 lead by the end of the third session.

But unlike in their previous outings, San Giljan’s best water polo came in the final session, scoring 5 goals to restore the score to a more respectable one, even though they finished on the losing end.

Is there anyway that you can come up with a top scorers’ list. Like in every sport individuality should be both recognised and rewarded

[Sportinmalta] This is a very valid suggestion and we will look into this.
