Week 12 National Bowling League – top three teams manage to win

Friday, April 26, 2013, 17:08

Week twelve of the current MSV Life National League saw victories for all three top teams, with leafers okmalta.com dropping two points in a majority win over Turu’s Knights while both Ramis and Fina picked up all eight, against J Grima & Co and Bank of Valletta, respectively. Bowlers on Strike were also 100% winners against The Clan, and there was a 6 – 2 result for Rogantino’s Restaurant against St. James Hospital.

Fina claimed all eight points in their match against bottom side, Bank of Valletta, but the one-sided score line certainly belied what was a touch-and-go performance for the winning side. Fina were poor in the opening game and their 636 score would have meant defeat against any of the other eight top flight teams on the day, but Bank of Valletta’s sorry 603 handed them the points. Things improved in game two, and the bankers almost managed to go level, but lost narrowly to go four down (676 – 699). Fina finally found form in the last of the series, winning it 686 – 823 to secure all eight. Danial Swift (Fina), 615. Tony Paris (Bank of Valletta), 526.

Second placed Ramis had an easy time of bagging a full-point victory against J Grima & Co, who are in eighth place. Game one was the closest of the three-set, and fell to Ramis 723 – 690. The match pened up in game two which Ramis took with much greater ease, 886 – 732 the score line, and held their high scoring form into game three, which finished 860 – 694 to round off the rout. Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 699 – male bowler of the week. Josephine Borg (J Grima & Co), 526.

Okmalta.com’s lead was cut to eight points as they dropped two in their eventual victory over Turu’s KInights. It was the Knights who drew first blood, winning the opener 729 – 757, before the defending champions came back to level it with an 823 – 776 game two win. Okmalta.com carried a nominal 19 pin advantage into the deciding third game, and were visibly relieved to clinch it by the narrowest possible margin, 680 – 679 giving them the final 6 – 2 win. Denis Mercieca (okmalta.com), 645. Tiziana Carannante (Turu’s Knights), 551 – female bowler of the week.

Fourth placed Bowlers on Strike scooped a good 8 – 0 win over strugglers, The Clan in week twelve. The full-point victory never really looked to be in any doubt from the earliest frames of the match, as the eventual winners won game one 721 – 670, which proved to be the closest of the series. Game two ended 774 – 657 before Bowlers on Strike pulled out all the strikes for a big 829 – 747 game three finale. Claude Camilleri (Bowlers on Strike), 627. Matthew Cossai (The Clan), 571.

Rogantino’s Restaurant managed a 6 – 2 win against St. James Hospital in their mid-table encounter this week. They took an early lead with a decent 776 – 717 win in the opener, but St. James then clawed their way back into it with a tight 706 – 712 equalizer in game two. Gem three was another close one, with Rogantino’s just edging it 677 – 667, for the match. Malcolm Pace (Rogantino’s Restaurant), 576. Andre Grech (St. James Hospital), 555.
