As Floriana FC make their comeback to UEFA competitions after a long 17 year absence, Club President Johann Said commented that he is looking forward with enthusiasm for tonight’s match against AEK Larnaca of Cyprus.

“This is a new experience for us all at Floriana, the Club hopes that we will be in  a position to qualify also next season so that we shall be more organized” the Green’s President said.

Speaking to a news conference Said also presented the latest acquisitions made his Club lately namely Ghana Goalkeeper Amemoo, Julio Alcorse and Edilson Dos Santos – all putting ink on paper for one season with the Club. Other players that have signed new agreements with the Club were also presented to the media namely, Christian Cassar and Thomas Paris both bought permanently from Marsaxlokk and Birkirkara respectively, Joseph Borg, Luke Agius and keeper Matthew Towns the latter extending his stay in Malta for another year.

“As you can see we have confirmed all the players who were in our squad last season and we are doing some fine tuning signings, we do hope that by the end of the transfer market that is by the end of August we can sign some other foreigners especially in the offensive department” insisted Said.

The Floriana President went on to add that unfortunately the committee had to release Nigerian born striker Daniel Nwoke since this player has not returned to Malta after he had informed the Club that he would have gone on holiday four days after the FA Trophy Final. “It is true that we owe him 22 days wage but I can assure you that we called him several times to return to Malta to start the pre season with us ahead of this UEL game but seems that the player has other intentions” remarked the Floriana boss.

Michael Woods and Manolito Micallef coach and captain respectively of the team said that they are aware that AEK are a better team and they expect a difficult match tonight.

Coach Woods confirmed that both Duncan Pisani and Ivan Woods are out of contention for the match but the latter will most probably asked to sit on the bench.

The match will be broadcast live on Malta Stars Channel 614 Melita.
