Italian Serie A side Catania defeated Serie B side Torino 2-0 to win the Trofeo Portomasolive.com tournament.

Qormi were defeated by Torino 3-1 in the first semi-final match at the National Stadium.

Torino took the lead on the 7th minute when Mirco Antenucci shot beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Torino doubled the score on the 17th minute when a powerful shot by Mirco Antenucci was deflected by goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia, but Antenucci was there to pick up the re-bound and place the ball at the back of the net. Qormni was close to reduce the gap but a Matthew Bartolo rising shot hit the upright.

Simone Verde had his fantastic shot beat the Qormi goalkeeper on the 23rd minute to make the score 3-0.

On the 26th minute, Qormi scored a consolation goal thanks to a penalty shot. Abubakar Bello-Osagie made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Catania defeated Hibernians 2-0 in the other semi-final match.

Hibernians were no intimidated by the Serie A giants and immediately went on the attack.

Three minutes into the match, Edison Luis dos Santos shot was unlucky not to score. Then on the 12th minute a free kick by Andrew Cohen ended just over the bar.

Catania finally managed to take the lead and ease the pressure from Hibernians on the 32nd minute. Substitute Alejandro Gomez fantastic shot beat goalkeeper Lys Gomis.

On the 34th minute, Alfredo Donnarumma doubled the score for Catania with his shot from outside the area leaving no chance for the stand in Hibernians goalkeeper.

Hibs were the brighter side in the early stages of the third place game against Qormi.

Fallia’s dangerous shot was deflected away for a corner after the winger had been teed up by Dias.

A meaningless game failed to ignite before the Paolites took the lead on 18 minutes when Bjorn Kristensen’s drive from outside the box took a deflection that wrong-footed Qormi goalkeeper Steve Sultana.

Another deluge descended on the National Stadium, making life uneasy for the players. Tarabai’s low free-kick came off the base of the post while Triston Caruana drove high from another set-piece as Hibs continued to dominate.

Hibs were awarded a penalty on 29 minutes after Gabriel Buttigieg brought down Peter Anizoba in the box. Failla made no mistake.

In the final match Serie A side Catania beat Serie B side Torino thanks to Maxi Lopez and Izco strikes.
