Volleyball: Quarter final match for CallejaThursday, March 2, 2017, 22:44
Maltese volleyball referee Nello Calleja has been appointed by the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) as one of the two referees for one of the quarter final matches from this season’s Men’s CEV Cup. Calleja will be accompanied by Mr. Geir Vestbo from Norway.
Calleja’s tie will see German side United Volleys Rheinmain face Belgians Lindemans Aalst in the first leg of this quarter final tie, with the match being played in Russelsheim, a city situated around 20kms away from Mainz. In the previous round, United Volleys overcame Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade, winning both legs, whilst Lindemans Aalst managed to do the same against French side Arago de Sete.
This is the first time that the Germans are participating in the European cups, whilst Aalst has a long history behind it, having participated in the different cups nearly on a regular basis since 1985, under the name of Asse-Lennik. Currently, United Volleys occupy third spot in the German Bundesliga, whilst Lindemans Aalst occupies the same position in the Belgian top division.
