Gaetan Spiteri brace puts Hamrun in second place

A Gaetan Spiteri goal in each half put Hamrun Spartans with Marsaxlokk, Tarxien and Floriana  in second place with thirteen points from eight games in the BOV Premier League standings, while Vittoriosa’s four game unbeaten run came to an end.

Steve D’Amato started with his usual 4-3-3 formation, with Gaetan Spiteri preferred as the lone stiker supported by Ryan Fenech and Marcelo Pereira. Omar Borg marked his first appearance for Hamrun in goal instead Ivan Casha while Scottish striker Dene Shields and Rupert Mangion were ruled out of this game. Winston Muscat also opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Anthony Ewrum as the Stars’ primary striker. Edison Luiz dos Santos was suspended following the red card that he picked up against Birkirkara.

First Half

13min:  Omar Borg saved a close range powerful shot by Jorge Santos Silva.

25min: Carlos Camponioli free kick was saved by the Hamrun goalkeeper.

33min: Geatan Spiteri diagonal shot beats the  helpless Simon Agius. 1-0

Second Half

49min: Kevin Mifsud’s close range header hit the post from a Leighton Grech corner.

70min: Jonathan Xerri header also hit the woodwork.

87min: Geatan Spiteri made it 2-0 after beating Simon Agius with a low shot. 2-0
