The Malta Volleyball Association (MVA) has appointed on Saturday Serbian Srdjan Veckov as national coach.

Veckov, who is 31 years old, has an impressive career in Volleyball.

In 2004 he represented his country in the Beach Volley Tour as a player, while in 2006 and 2007 he received back to back awards for the Best Junior Coach and Best Youth Coach respectively.

He has also been the Serbian National Beach Volleyball Coach since 2006, during which time teams under his guidance won the Balkan Beach Volley Championships in 2009 (Ladies) and 2010 (Men).

Veckov, who was on a joint training camp in Malta with his teams in July 2010, opted to choose Malta following lengthy talks with MVA President Branko Valhovic.

The latter said he was delighted to have convinced Veckov to come to Malta as his resume is extremely suitable for the needs of the Malta Volleyball Association.

Veckov will predominantly be coaching the Men’s & Women’s teams for the Games of the Small States of Europe 2011, but he will also be involved in junior, youth and mini volleyball, sectors which had not been given their due importance under previous administrations.

The MVA announced it will also be in talks with other coaches to take on various posts within the association.
