For the second year running, the senior men’s team from Valletta Volleyball Club has been invited to hold a training camp in Milan at the end of this week.

Throughout their stay in Milan, Valletta San Antonio will conduct intensive training sessions at the facilities used by the Italian National volleyball teams while also playing a series of friendly games against teams in the Serie B and Serie C categories. In line with last year’s training camp, the Valletta contingent has been invited to watch a live game of the Italian Serie A league between Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza and world champions Itas Diatec Trentino.

“Besides giving the players more time to concentrate on the fundamentals of their game, we thought of giving them something more, and the invitation for the Serie A game fits in perfectly with our idea to ensure that the training camp is a holistic one from all volleyball aspects”, said Owen Spiteri, Valletta’s setter and club official.

The Valletta squad remains unbeaten this season and preparations are in full swing for their forthcoming training camp while also concentrating on the domestic competitions. “Following the exceptional start to our season which saw us winning the Preseason Tournament and the Super Cup, this training camp arrives exactly midway through the season as we prepare to challenge for the remaining honours of the season”, said Jonathan Chetcuti, Valletta’s captain.

Prolific Valletta spiker Robert Balzan shall be extending his stay in the Lombardy capital as he shall be undergoing further training with a Serie B team. “This is a unique opportunity for both my club and myself as I have been given a chance to improve my volleyball skills while also experiencing the environment of an Italian volleyball club” added Balzan.

The players that have been called up for the Milan training camp are the following:

Setters: Josef Pirotta, Owen Spiteri

Central Spikers: Dalton Caruana, Jonathan Chetcuti, Keith Mifsud

Outside Spikers: Robert Balzan, Cedric Bondin, Anatoly Gatt, Stephen Riolo, Anatole Scerri Diacono, Paul Tonna

Libero: Vince Pace

This training camp is being made possible with the support of Airmalta, San Antonio Hotel, Easygas, Mapei and the Valletta Local Council.
