Impressive Hibs stun Valletta to share record

Hibernains’ jubilation at the end of their 2-0 win over Valletta was very similar to that of three seasons ago when the Paolites had won the BOV Premier League when ironically they had registered a goalless draw against the City in the last match of the season.

This time around the stakes were different. Three points to go and lead the standings and also a win to maintain the 37 unbeaten run which would have been surpassed by Valletta if the latter had won the match.

Mark Miller surprised everyone with his tactical formation, giving space to his wingers and giving instructions to attack Zerafa’s side instead of waiting for them like many teams do.

Michael Mifsud was not in action today as he is nursing a hamstring injury.

Valletta were out to beat Hibernians’ record of 37 unbeaten runs which was established in the 80′s. But the Citizens were out also to stay on top of the standings.

Hibs had a flying start as their foreigner Edison Luis Dos Santos headed home a perfect cross from Herrera just 180 seconds into the game.

The first part of the game resulted in a tough encounter with no less than six yellow cards shown by Referee Arciola and two red cards ,one on each directed at Gilbert Agius and Adrian Pulis. Eventually the balance on the ref’s bad book at the end of the match was that of twleve (12) yellow cards and four (4) red cards.
