Full Time: Hibernians 0 Valletta 1

Valletta maintained their 100 per cent record to the season, with Gabriel Da Silva scoring the all important goal 15 minutes from time.

Champions and leaders Valletta now have 18 points from 6 matches as the winners of last season’s cup, Hibernians, dropped second joint with Birkirkara on 15 points.

Hibernians coach Michael Woods gave the nod to Jason Lee, who returned after a one month suspension. Maltese former international Udo Nwoko also made his debut, six years and a half since leaving the club. Hibernians also were without the influential goalkeeper Mario Muscat and striker Marcelo Dias, who were both banned for one match after being dismissed in last week’s 3-2 win against Balzan Fc

Valletta coach Mark Miller was meeting his former employers for the second time this season after the 3-1 Super Cup win earlier on.

The all important goal came fifteen minutes from time. After controlling Borg’s long pass, Bajada used all his guile and pace to outpace Pearson and assist Gabriel Da Silva whose low first-timer effort finished in the corner pass Daniel Balzan.

One minute from time Hibernians were close to equalising, but  assistant referee Mariano Debono incurred the wrath of the Hibs clan when Jackson Lima bundled the ball into the net. But the Brazilian had given the ball a helping hand over the line and the ‘goal’ was disallowed.

Tarxien Rainbows 1 Birkirkara 4

Birkirkara returned to winning ways as Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza scored an impressive hat trick to thrash Tarxien Rainbows.

The Sytripes took the lead after only four minutes when Mifsud Triganza rose majestically to meet Edward Herrera’s cross and headed home past David Cassar.

In the 17th minute Birkirkara increased the lead as the former Sliema striker Triganza tapped in Jhonnathan’s cross.

Tarxien’s reduced the gap in the 43rd minute when Daniel Mariano Bueno’s long-range shot was not handled well by Reuben Gauci and Mark Tanti, who had followed the action, duly profited as he tapped the ball home from close range.

After the break, Tarxien were reduced to ten men as Evaldo Dos Santos was shown the red card after hitting Mifsud Triganza. Birkirkara added to Tarxien’s woes as Triganza completed his hat-trick with a low drive.

Birkirkrara were not finished, as substitute Ryan Camenzuli scored a superb goal, beating his marker down the left flank before a shot from a tight angle went in past Cassar.
