Current leaders Valletta could extend their two-point lead at the top of the standings this weekend as their immediate rivals, Hibernians and Sliema are involved in tricky matches.

While Valletta will be meeting Mosta on Sunday, Sliema face Marsaxlokk and Hibernians to play Balzan on Saturday.

In the other three matches, Birkirkara take on Mqabba and Floriana face Hamrun Spartans tonight, whilst Qormi meet Tarxien on Sunday.

In tonight’s first match Birkirkara take on Mqabba at the National Stadium at 18.00.

Birkirkara coach Patrick Curmi has Rowen Muscat and Shaun Bajada unavailable but left back Andrew Decesare returned after he missed the 3-0 defeat against Hibernians. Coach Clive Mizzi will also miss Brazilian striker Thiago Mazzitelli as he was sent off in last Monday 2-0 win against Marsaxlokk. Birkirkara will start hot favourites although Mqabba on their day can be deadly.

In the second match Floriana take on Hamrun Spartans at 20.00.

The Greens have to bounce back after last week 1-0 defeat against old rivals Sliema characterised by William Amamoo sent off. Coach Michael Woods will be without the Ghanian goalkeeper as he has no other selection problems. Nigerian striker Joseph Okwonkwo could make his full debut as he plays against his former teamates. Hamrun coach Jesmond Zammit has no selection problems and is also looking forward after the 1-1 draw against Tarxien Rainbows.

On Saturday’s first match the surprise of the season Hibernians take on Balzan Youths at the Corradino Stadium at 17.00.

Hibernians coach Mark Miller will have no selection problems as he looks forward for next week’s game against Valletta. Ivan Zammit also has no selection problems and welcomes back Brazilian striker Pedro Calcado after he missed the 1-1 draw against Mosta last Monday.

In the second match rejuvenated Sliema Wanderers take on under pressure Marsaxlokk at 20.00 a game which will be  live on Malta Stars – Melita Channel 614.

Sliema coach Danilo Doncic missed midfielder Ryan Grech as he was sent off in last week 1-0 win against Floriana meanwhile Marsaxlokk coach Winston Muscat has no selection problems but his team is still struggling near the bottom end of the standings, two points adrift from bottom three.

On Sunday’s first match Qormi take on strugglers Tarxien Rainbows at the National Stadium kick off 17.00.

Both sides had an indifferent start off the season as they are only two points adrift each other. Both Coaches have no selection problems. Qormi are coming from a 3-1 defeat against leaders Valletta while Tarxien Rainbows registered the first point of the season in 1-1 draw against Hamrun Spartans.

On Sunday’s second match Valletta take on bottom place Mosta at 19.00.

The Citizens are just one game from the unbeaten record held by Hibernians back in the mid 70’s as on paper it could be an easy game for Jesmond’s Zerafa side. The former Tarxien Rainvbows mentor will have no selection problems as the Lilly whites are also the only club with maximum points. Mosta coach Oliver Spiteri also has no selection problems and hopes his side gives a solid performance against the Champions.
