Steve Bezzina and Michael Mifsud were Valletta’s heroes on Thursday night as Valletta managed a 2-1 win over Qormi thus reducing the gap from leaders Birkirkara to one point with a game in hand. Birkirkara are to recover this match on Friday.

Dutch coach Ton Caanen was instructed to leave out central defender Luke Dimech from his 18 man squad. Close sources to the Valletta committee said that this decision was related to the disciplinary action that was taken on the player after an incident in the last Valletta v Sliema match, when the ex Malta player got red carded following a silly gesture.

Valletta scored on the 23rd minute mark by Steve Bezzina after a fine cross by Dyson Falzon and Michael Mifsud doubled the score just before the end of the first half. Qormi got one back in the second part of the game with a Massimo Grima free kick on the 83rd minute mark.

In the meantime the MFA is believed to have received a formal letter written by Valletta President Victor Sciriha in which the City boss asked the Malta FA to investigate last Sunday’s  BOV game between Birkirkara and Hibernians, as Valletta are claiming foul play. The alleged corruption case in this case has probed the Malta Police to investigate Scriha’s letter which was also sent to Police Commissioner Mr. John Rizzo .

Just Ask the Valletta youths.. they want to play with the team, but because of some ( team managers ) they made their life a living hell. Not mentioning the poor football played by caanen. long balls, crosses back to front..

We, the supporters want to enjoy our team by playing pass & go football, possesion game and playing the valletta traditional way.

I must remind mr scriha that championshps are won on the field of play and not by writing letters..

The foul play exists in mr scririha’s mind and arises due to his obsession and money as since the start of the season he imagined that the league championship for 2010 was a forlgone conclusion.

In his letter about foul play to the mfa about the b’kara-hibs match, he should also include how the officials in two recent matches involving valletta, the trophy match against the champions b’kara where two blantant offside goals were convalidated and the poor referreeing in the match between valletta and qormi.
