Starting the game with a comfortable aggregate score of 3-0 didn’t seem to have affect much the Citizens. Visibly technically better than the opponents the reigning local Champions  started the game on the attack when after less than a minute Denni Rocha dos Dantos’s received a pass from  Gilbert Agius but his nearby shot was well saved by  Tre Fiori’s keeper birthday boy Cola. In the seventh minute Michael Sinoncini was fouled by Dyson Falzon in the penalty area but the referree surprisingly yellow carded  Simocini  for simulation . After fifteen minutes Denni created another dangerous attack but Cola rescued this Valletta attack  easily. Remarkable was the fact that Tre Fiori’s coach gave Cola the nod to start in the first eleven  being his 39th birthday and also because of the fact that qualification issue for almost impossible for the San Marino side..

On the 21st minute SP Tre Fiori were awarded a penalty when Giunta was fouled in the penalty area. From the eleven meter  spot Lisi converted to put the team from San Marino ahead.

On the 36th minute Denni served a through pass to Effiong, the latter reciprocated  to the Brazilian striker but the Tre Fiori golakeeper intercepted well.

On the 41st minute mark energetic substitute Ryan Fenech came into action when he replaced  Denni dos Santos who injured himself in a  collision with goalkeeper Cola minutes earlier.

Just before the nick of half time substitute Ryan Fenech delivered a cross into the penalty area but Zongo didn’t connect.

Two minutes into the second half a shot by Jamie Pace was saved  by Cola. Eleven minutes after,  Tre Fiori conceded a soft penalty when Vendemini fouled Ian Zammit inside the penalty area and the referre pointed to the spot. Vendemini was booked for his foul and later given marching orders for protesting with the referree. Zammit took responsibility from the penalty spot and didn’t miss to level the score  1-1. Few minutes later, a cross by Ian Zammit in the danger zone towards substitute Barbosa (who entered into action in the second half as a replacement for  Zongo) was saved by Cola. In the 62nd minute Brazilian forward Barbosa was again the protagonist in yet another  action when after receiving a cross from Effiong, his fierce header hit the crossbar.

In the 66th minute Tre Fiori affected their first substitution when Zenonay took Anici’s place. A minute later Effiong sevred Pace just in front of the goalie but the latter  missed an incredible opportunity to put the Citizens ahead when it was more difficult to miss target than to put the ball into the net. Valletta were now in full control and had a goal by Barbosa disallowed because of an offside signalled by the Albanian referee.

On the 72nd minute mark a shot by Ian Zammit ended  just high over the crossbar. Three minutes later  Maltese international Kevin Sammut came in for  Nigerian striker Effiong. Nine minutes from the end  a freekick by Valletta’s talisman and Captain Agius   was wonderfully saved by Cola. Tre Fiori were noe demoralised and Valletta continued to create numerous goal-scoring opportunities. On the 88th minute mark Barbosa, served well by Edmond Agius put Valletta ahead with a fine rising shot. In the dying moments of the game Valletta missed more  chances of score namely through Zammit and Barbosa.

Valletta after this convincing 5-1 win on aggregate now look forward to the second qualifying round when next Tuesday they face Lithuanian Champions FK Ekranas this time with international striker and national team captain Michael Mifsud on their ranks. The game willbe played at the Hibs Stadium
