Solid Valletta beat Birkirkara

Valletta won three prestigious points after beating strugglers Birkirkara in yesterday’s second match at the National Stadium inTa Qali.

Two Jamie Pace and Steve Borg headers sealed the win for the Champions after Avila Moises goal gave a temporary draw for Birkirkara. Valletta are now the new leaders on eighteen points from seven games, two points above Hibernians who will play Mosta tomorrow at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Birkirkara stayed in the middle part of the table with ten points from seven games.

Valletta coach Jesmond Zerafa started with an offensive 4-3-3 formation as Nigerian Alfred Effiong and Brazilian William Barbosa supported central striker Michael Mifsud. Valletta were coming from a hard fought 4-2 victory against Mqabba. Valletta welcomed defender Steve Borg and the Malta international top scorer Michael Mifsud in their ranks.

Returning coach Paul Zammit kept last season’s system as he started with an offensive 4-3-3 formation as wingers Terence Vella and Terence Cilia support Spanish striker Avila Moises.

First Half

42 min: Valletta open the score thanks to Jamie Pace’s precise header to put the lillywhites in the lead.

Second Half

Moises Avila levelled the score after he was served by Rowen Muscat as he anticipated Roderick Briffa’s short pass.

67min: Steve Borg Header put the City in the lead.
