Francis Jeffers future in doubt?
Francis Jeffers’ future at Floriana is clouded in doubt – after the 31 year old striker left Malta during the weekend.
After several attempts, Sportinmalta.com made contact with Floriana president Justin Attard who confirmed the former Everton player is already in England, but he’s insisted a number of times that he will return in Malta in time to face Hibernians this weekend.
The Jeffers saga started off just a few minutes after the match against Tarxien Rainbows, as he also waved goodbye to his team mates in the dressing room.
The news came in the light of the departure of former team manager Adam Lewer, who was brought to Malta by the Vaughan Family and was the right hand of former coach Mark Wright.
Francis Jeffers signed for Floriana this month signed a one year deal.
Once dubbed as a ‘Fox in the Box’ by Arsene Wenger, he joined Arsenal from Everton for £8million in June 2001, but his career in north London failed to take off.
He exited the Gunners team three years later before joining Charlton, Rangers, Blackburn, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Motherwell.
His one international cap came in 2003 and was England’s goalscorer as the Three Lions were humiliated 3-1 by Australia at Upton Park.
Jeffers, 31, was released by Australian A-League side Newcastle Jets during the summer.
