University students to participate in Russia

After being absent from the games since the 1990s, the Malta University Sports Club shall be fielding a contingent of 10; 7 athletes, 2 officials and 1 coach to the FISU Summer Universiades, to be held in Kazan, Russia this July.

The games are a University based version of the Olympics, and over 13,000 elite student athletes coming from all over the world will be participating. Among such athletes there are Olympic medallists and Olympic hopefuls. Despite the high level of the games, MUSC has no doubt that its athletes will receive satisfying results.

MUSC will be launching it’s contingent at the official kitting out event taking place on the 1st of July at the University of Malta KSU Common Room. The contingent is comprised of 7 athletes, including, Andy Grech, Rebecca Sare and Matthew Croker for athletics, Andrea Agius, Edward Caruana Dingli and Daniel Galea for Swimming and Rodmar Pulis for weightlifting. Elena Bajada and Madeleine Fenech will be accompanying the contingent as officials. The flag bearer for the Maltese Contingent will also be named at the event.

The Maltese contingent is set to leave Malta on the 4th of July and will return on the 17th of July. The official opening ceremony which will be held on the 6th of July, as well as the games, will be broadcast on Eurosport throughout the 2 weeks.
