Valletta and Paola H to cross swords in Friday’s Final
Two Red Cards in Keen Game

After a keen and balanced game between Valletta and Pieta the game had to decided by the taking of penalties as the score sheet was still blank after normal and extra time. The game was watched by a very large crowd at the Luxol Ground.
Pieta created the first three actions. Shawn Darmanin was fouled on the left flank and after the ball was partly cleared from the same player’s free kick Matthew Goodlip drove over the bar from the rebound. Luke Tabone served Neil Pace Cocks on the right flank and Valleta keeper Ryan Caruana neutralised the ball from his cross and Darmanin served Tabone with a cross from the left flank but he drove over the bar from outside the area.
In a reatcion by Valletta they mounted three actions. Jean C Seychell pounced on a loose ball outside the area and he drove slightly over the bar. Clint Zammit was then fouled outside the area , Kurt Drackary served the same player with a short pass from the free kick and the ball was cleared and the ball was cleared away from his shot and Drackary served the same player with a through ball in the area and Pieta keeper Matthew Grech foiled him with a timely sortie.
In another action by Pieta, Ayrton Mizzi dribbled past two opponents and after entering the area Caruana saved his low shot. 
Valletta again reacted and mounted two more actions.Ian Montanaro was fouled on the left edge of the area and after the free kick by Drackary, Nicky De Gabriele headed out from inside the area and in an action between three players, Dario Zampa served Zammit with a through ball and after the latter returned the compliment to Dario Tabone in the area he lobbed the ball over the bar with only Grach to beat.
The last two actions before the break were both created by Pieta. Benjamin Zahra served Pace Cocks with a cross from the left and after Caruana partly saved his shot from inside the area the ball was cleared away and Mizzi was then fouled on the left edge of the area and after Caruana parlty saved the free kick shot by Kerkes, Tabone drove out from the rebound.
There were only five actions worthy of note after the resumption. In the 43rd minute Valleta were denied by the wood work. Tabone dribbled past an opponent on the left flank who then crossed to Zammit in the area and the ball hit the foot of the upright from his header with Grech completely beaten.
In another action by Valletta, Montanaro was fouled in midfield, Tristan Nappa Licari served Drackary with a short free kick pass and the ball was cleared away following his high shot.
Two actions were then mounted by Pieta. Pace Cocks floated a perfect high ball in the area from a free kick and Caruana saved a header by Kerskes and Tabone was then fouled on the left flank and Caruana was forced to dive and save the free kick shot by Darmanin, and in the last action before the end of normal time, Zahra served Pace Cocks with a through ball in the area and Caruana denied him with a diving save in two attempts.
Extra time had to be played as the score stood 0-0 after normal time. Only two actions were created in the first half of extra time. Tabone dribbled past two opponents on the right flank and Caruana neutralised the ball from his cross and Montanaro released Zammit in the area and Grech foiled him with a timely sortie.
In the first action of the second half Pieta were denied by the wood work. Dylan Agius served Tabone in the area and the ball hit the upright from his shot and finished out and in another action by Pieta Agius released Pace Cocks in the area and Caruana foiled him as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball.
In the last action before the end of extra time Montanaro was fouled just outside the area and after Grech partly saved the free kick by Zammit, De Gabriele drove out from the rebound.In the second minute of added time Pieta player Luke Tabone recklessly fouled a Valletta player just outside the area and keeper Ryan Caruana rushed to the scene and pushed the same player to the ground. When calm was restored the referee showed the red card to both Tabone and Caruana .
 The game had to decided by the taking of penalties. Zammit, Drackary, Tabone and Montanaro scored for Valletta and Agius and Pace Cocks scored for Pieta.

Gallant Cottonera beaten in extra time

Section C 3 winners Cottonera Utd put up a very gallant effort against stronger and more quoted opponents as they defended very well and operated on fast counter attacks and were only beaten during extra time.
Paola H created the first three actions. Joseph Mbong dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and Cottonera keeper Lawrence Cauchi neutralised the ball from his cross. Gennaro Hili released Mbong in the area but he drove out from a very ideal position and Christian Mallia was fouled on the left edge of the area and after the ball was partly cleared from Matthew Brincat’s free kick Hili drove out from the rebound.
In the first action by Cottonera Jurgen Gauci was fouled outside the area and Liam Gauci drove out from the free kick.
Hibs kept insisting and mounted two more actions. Hili relased Jurgen De Gabriele in the area and Cauchi saved his shot to a corner and he did likewise minutes later after a dangerous cross from the right flank by Daniel Buckle. Cottonera were then awarded a free kick after Liam Gauci was fouled outside the area and Hibs keeper Rudy Briffa saved the free kick shot by the same player. In the last action before the break Hili was fouled in midfield and after Brincat served the same player with a short pass from the free kick he drove high over the bar.
Paola mounted the first two actions after the restart. De Gabriele served Mallia in the area but he drove over the bar and De Gabriele was then fouled outside the area and after the ball was deflected from his free kick shot Cauchi had to dive and save the ball. In the 53rd minute Paola were denied by the woodwork. Brincat dribbled past an opponent outside the area and the ball hit the upright from his hard drive with Cauchi beaten.
 Cottonera opened the score in the 54th minute when Liam Gauci dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and after serving Olsen Giordano with a low cross in the area he scored with a hard low drive.  Their joy was however short-lived as three minutes later Paola equalised as De Gabriele served Mbong in the area who netted with a low shot.
Paola made it 2-1 in the 63rd minute as De Gabriele entered the area after beating an opponet and palced the ball in the net. Cottonera restored equilibrium in the 67th minute. Aaron Hili handled the ball outside the area and after Liam Gauci floated a high ball in the area from the free kick Geordey Gatt scored with a hrad rising shot from inside the area. In the last action before the end Aaron Hili was fouled outside the area and from De Gabriele’s free kick the ball was headed away. Extra time had to be played as the score stood at 2-2 after normal time. There were only four actions in the first half of extra time which were all created by Paola.
Aaron Hili dribbled past an opponent on the right flank who then crossed to Mbong in the area but he drove over the bar and substitute Zack Scerri released substitue Clive Gauci in the area but he also drove over the bar. In the 85th minute Pala restored their one-goal lead as Gauci released De Gabriel in the area and he scored with a low shot and in the last action of the first half, after a corner kick by Gauci, Cauchi saved a header by Mbong.
In the second period both sets of players showed signs of tiredness as only two actions were created, one by each side. Jurgen Gauci was fouled outside the area and Briffa saved in two attempts the free kick shot by Liam Gauci and just before the end of extra time Paola scored a fourth goal as Scerri served Gauci with a low cross outside the area and he scored with a hard high drive.
