Under 15: Msida too good for Maroons

The Msida youngsters were the much better outfit than Gzira. They created much more occasions then Gzira and were very methodical in their approaches while the Maroons were very slow and erratic intheir passing.

The first two actions were created by Gzira. A well-taken flag kick by josef Galea created havoc in Msida’s area but the ballwas somehow cleared and the same player served Daniel Galea in the area but Msida kepper Dylan Sammut foiled him with a timely sortie.

The reaction by Msida was very immediate as they created three actions in succession. Jean C Spiteri served Danile Vassallo in the area but Gzira keeper Luke Mercieca foiled him with a timely sortie, in a similar action drove out from inside the area and Spiteri served Jason Attard with a through ball, the latter returned the compliment to Vassallo in the area and he missed the upright with his shot.

In a Gzira attack, Renald Aquilina served Salvatore Grixti on the left flank and after beating two defenders he crossed the ball in the area and was cleared to a corner.

Msida opened the score in the 16th minute when Spiteri served Vassallo in the area and he scored with a low shot, and in an identical move minutes later, Mercieca partly saved the shot by Vassallo and the ball was cleared.

The score became 2-0 in the 23rd minute when David Azzopardi served Vassallo with a cross from the right flank and he scored with a low shot from inside the area..

Gzira then created the last two actions before the break. Grixti served Daniel Gaea with a through ball but Andy Pace foiled him with a timelty tackle and Dylan Sciberras served Dean Galea with a through ball in the area and Sammut saved his effort in two attempts.

Very few were the actions created by both sides after the restart as both sets of players were showing signs of tiredness.

Msida scored a third goal nine minutes after restart when Vassallo served Attard with a through ball on the left flank and his cross-shot completely deceived Mercieca with the ball ending at the back of the net.

The pressure from Msida was incessant and they mounted three further actions. SDpiteri served Vassallo in the area and Gzira substitute keeper Cliff Aquilina denied him with a diving save and he did likewise on a shot by Grixti after he was put through by Vassallo and a flag kick by Spiteri created havoc in Gzira’s area anf the ball was cleared with difficulty.

Richard Aquilina was then fouled on the right flank but Grixti drove well over Msida’s bar from the free kick.

The fourth and final goal was scored in the 63rd minute when ‘keeper Cliff Aqulina handled the ball on the left edge of the area and Vassallo scored with a lobbed ball from the free kick.

The last action before thew end came from Gzira when Grixti was fouled outside the area and Sammut saved the free kick shot by Jean P Vella.
