Malta has been entrusted by UEFA to host a study group on the theme ‘Grassroots Football in Malta’. This activity will be held over three days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week at the MFA Technical Centre, Ta’ Qali.

The aim of this study group, the first to be held in our country, is to help national asscoiations exchange invaluable technical knowledge through such schemes which UEFA has now been undertaking for some years. These initiatives to refine by means of various fora the work that is being undertaken by member federations in vital areas of football are commendable and go a long way towards improving the game in different sectors.

Grassroots football is one of these sectors. It has been at the core of UEFA’s initiatives for some time now, and Malta has been in the forefront in promulagating concepts of football at the base and implementing them on lines advocated by the European Football Confederation

The Study Group will have three guest countries, besides hosts, Malta. These are Italy, Lithuania and Luxembourg who will each have 11 participants, as will Malta.

There will be several topics under the microscope, all linked to football at grassroots level. The contribution of Malta and the participating countries in this event should help to foster a greater awareness of the importance of football at grassroots level.
