Estadi Comunal in better days!

19:00hrs and no kick off for Birkirkara in Estadi Comunal – Andorra La Vella against FC Santa Coloma!

As always sportinmalta.com is the first to update you with the hot news with regards to Maltese sportsmen and teams fairing both locally and internationally.

Birkirkara FC were informed later today by the UEFA Match Delegate that if the pitch at the Communal Stadium in Andorra was not re-surfaced by 19:00Hrs  then the match will have to be called off. In the organisational meeting this morning the Referees complained that the stadium did not reach the criteria dictated by UEFA to hold a Champions League match and that they were not in a position to let the game go for kick-off.

The pitch had to be resurfaced for more then 75% of the playing surface and was deemed unplayable by the UEFA team thus the UEFA delegate had no other option but to cancel it and pass on his decision for the UEFA Disciplinary Board to meet tomorrow, decide on the outcome of the match  and communicate the result of the said match. This can result to a walk over in favour of Birkirkara FC with the result standing at 0-3.

The training session scheduled for yesterday at 19:00hrs could not take place either but this is not obligatory for the UEFA Champions League and a similar training session could in fact be held indoors.

At UEFA Champions League level one does not expect such farcical situations! sportinmalta.com will update you with more news as we even await photos of the pitch.
