Last season’s Section D winners Birzebbuġa had a very easy task to beat  newcomers Marsaskala. They were not demoralised after suffering a very early set back as they dominated the proceedings throughout the whole 70 minutes and are certain to qualify for the Second Preliminary Round after playing the second leg as a draw will suffice.

It was Marsaskala who opened the score after only 45 seconds when Brandon Farrugia controlled the ball after a faulty back-pass by Luke Spiteri to his keeper Jake Mallia and scored with a tap-in into an unguarded post.

In another action by M’skala Zack Sultana served Farrugia with a through ball in the area and B’Bugia keepr Jake Pace foiled him with a timely sortie.

In B’Bugias first action, Clayton Borda served Ismael Camilleri with a perfect cross in the area but he failed to get his head to the ball when well-placed in the area.

In the 13th minute B’Bugia levelled matters as Omar Eliada Chaffey released Aidan Spiteri in the area who netted with a low drive past M’Skala keeper Jake Mallia. After this goal B’Bugia started dominating the game as they created all the actions up to the half time whistle and added five more goals in the process. Borda pounced on a faulty clearance just outside the area and netted with a high drive. The same player dribbled past two opponents onthe left flankand after he was fouled just outside the area Eliada Chaffey netted with a header from inside the area following the free kick by Brendon Magro to make it 3-1.

Between the 33rd and 36th minutes another three goals were scored. Ismael Camilleri set Spiteri free in the area who scored with a hard rising shot. Magro then dribbled past a defender outside the area and scored with a hard low drive and Eliada Chaffey entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and scored with a hard low drive.

The dominance by B’Bugia resumed after the resumption and they added three further goals. Jeremy azzopardi released Seager Reece on the right flank and M’Skala keeper Jake Mallia neitralised the ball in two attempts from his cross-shot, the same palyer then drove over the bar after a squre pass by eliada Chaffey.

The score became 7-1 in the 48th minute. Ismael Camilleri dribbled past an opponent on the right flank who then served Azzopardi in the area with a cross and he netted with a low shot, a minute later B’Bugia were denied by the wood work as the ball thumped the bar from a rebund shot by Camilleri after a corner kick by Magro was partly cleared outside the area.

In the only action by M’Skala Leon abela entered the area fter dribbling past two defenders and after Pace partly saved his shot Andrea Vella drove out from the rebound.

Two more goals were then scored between the 53rd and 56 minutes. Eliada Chaffey scored from inside the area after he was put through by Azzopardi and the same palyer scored with a cross-shot from the right flank after dribbling past an ooponent to make the final score read 9-1.

In the last action before the end  Azzopardi dribbled past an opponent on the right flank who then crossed the ball to Eliada Chaffey in the area but he drove slightly over the bar.
