Former U/21 Malta player Tyrone Farrugia has agreed personal terms with Floriana to join them on a permanent basis subject to an agreement between Floriana and the club he is currently registered with, Msida St. Joseph. Farrugia has been in Russia for the past two months trying to negotiate a contract with a professional second division team but the central defender has opted to return to Malta due to the fact that the Russian club wanted his services starting from January 2011.

Should Floriana and Msida agree on the financial terms for a permanent move of the player, the Greens would have to let Farrugia go for another two week stint in Russia in January, as the player is still interested to play abroad.

More transfer market news

In the meantime another team that is busy trying to secure more signings is Valletta FC. Sciriha is tempted by the idea to intensify talks with Daniel Mariano Bueno, the Argentine player who featured for Tarxien in the 2008/09 season. Valletta have also expressed concrete interest in left back Ian Azzopardi to strengthen their left back position. An exchange on a loan basis for one season between Azzopardi and Steve Bezzina is not being excluded. Azzopardi is one of the top paid players at Sliema and is in his fourth contractual season with the Blues. At the end of the 2010/11 season he will be out of contract if he stays with the Blues.

Hamrun Spartans have offered a one year contract to a Scottish player, Dene Shields, who is reported to have impressed coach Steve D’Amato. Hamrun currently have two Brazilian players together with a Serbian player on trial with them. D’Amato only needs to choose one more foreigner as the club has already reconfirmed Hrubsa and Pereira for the 2010/11 season.

Floriana are very close to reach an agreement with a Tunisian goalkeeper and a Bulgarian midfielder, the latter brought over to Malta by the Greens’ new coach Todor Raykov.

Qormi who are only in their second week of pre-season have offered a two year contract to Abubaker, a Nigerian striker who is yet to receive his visa clearance. Apart from having already confirmed Sciberras, Giglio, Bondin, Camilleri and Frendo for next season, coach Stephen Azzopardi has asked the Qormi committee to commence immediate negotiations for the permanent transfer of Matthew Bartolo. Qormi also have a number of foreign players on trial with them, namely two Polish players, and a 23 year old German central defender by the name of Klaus Buckle. Sunday Eboh who holds a Maltese passport is also very close to ink a deal with Qormi.
