Maltese international player Daniel Bajada helped his Serie B1 side ASD Fiaccola end their first round commitments on a positive note following a 5-3 victory over Tenute Zinni Casalbordino ‘Il Sole’ in a match played at the Istituto Tecnico Commerciale in Casalbordino on Saturday evening.

The Maltese youngster, ranked no. 251 according to the December rankings, got off to a bad start losing 3-0 to no. 57 Li Weimen. However, Bajada soon rediscovered his winning touch as he hit back with a convincing 3-0 win over Franco Spagnoli and a narrow 3-2 victory against Alessandro Santoro.

Thanks to this win ASD Fiaccola are now joint third in the current standings and face leaders ASD Tennistavolo Norbello of Sardinia away from home next Saturday. In the first round the current runaway leaders easily won 5-1.

Bajada will not be forming part of the ASD Fiaccola team for this match since he is one of the five finalists vying for the prestigious Youth Sportsperson of the Year award during next Saturday’s Sportmalta Awards organised by the Kunsill Malti Ghall-Isport.
