Two kickboxers from Team Noel who represented Malta in France managed to win against adversaries from Cuba and France in the K1 professional categories.

Samuele Andolina and Christopher Rotin have made Malta proud on Saturday 13th May with a brilliant performance in the Pro category, even if they are not yet professional fighters. This was a high level event and was even streamed live on television.

21 year old Andolina has been training for three years, and fought in the 54 kg category. He described the fight as a hard one since most of the athletes were professional, with he himself fighting a veteran from Cuba with an experience of over 40 fights.  Andolina managed to land a knock-out in the first round, but the fight raged on till the end, with Andolina ending up winning.

25 year old Rotin has also been training for three years with Master Noel Mercieca. Despite this being his 12th fight, it was the first one on a professional level. Rotin, who fought in the 70kg category against an adversary from France, also described this fight as a hard one. Although he kept on the cautious side during the first round, he then went on to attack with various combinations during the second and third rounds, and managed to win.

Andolina and Rotin were assisted in France by Master Noel Mercieca and his assistant Terence Cilia.

Mercieca, who trained both Andolina and Rotin, described the performance by the two athletes as exceptional, and a direct result of their sacrifices. He said that in this sport Malta is competing well with large countries, and appealed to the authorities to invest more in Maltese athletes who are making a name in every corner of the world.
