Tuesday, May 22, 2012, 9:40

On the 6th of May a selection of TTN Malta players together with Head Coach / Director returned from Vienna after an international training camp at the Werner Schlager category A training center in Schwechat. The Maltese athletes were greeted by Werner Schlager, ex World Champion and currently still active on the Austrian National team, who explained to the contingent that the professional set up in the Multiversum complex is enough to offer the best frame of mind to motivate competitive table tennis players together with a variety of high level sparing partners and top world ranked players to make the best of the training camp. The high profile coaches who were responsible for the Maltese that week ensured that the sessions and advice was being passed on effectively. Overlooking TTN Malta students were the likes of Dmitriji Levenko, Martin Doppler and Provas Mondal each coach highly regarded on the international Table Tennis scene. Training was conducted twice a day each session lasting 2 ½ hours which also included an element of physical conditioning.

The Maltese students also had the opportunity to watch and learn from the professional Table Tennis players who are training in the new facility, top world ranked players like Daniela Dodean, Robert Gardos, Chen Weixing, Jean Laueric, Junior national team of Japan and many others. When asked to comment about this international stage TTN Malta director David Pace told us that it ultimately boils down to offering its present and future students the best opportunities to advance. The WSA is the best European training facility at present so much so that world champions China have already been there twice in preparation for the world championships. David also mentioned that he was exceptionally pleased with the support from the parents of the players who recognized the importance of such a camp. David told us that other international opportunities are in the pipeline. TTN Malta has currently opened a third training center at De La Salle sports complex.
