Top of the table clash on Monday night

The BOV Premier League continues today Friday when third place Hamrun Spartans take on seventh place Birkirkara onhome soil at 19:30. The Black and Reds are coming from a 7 goal thrilling game which they won against Hiberians, while Champions Birkirkara will aim to bounce back from last Sunday’s defeat against southsiders Marsaxlokk. Hamrun coach Steve D’Amato still has to cope without Scottish Dean Shields but he finds his replacment in Peter Anizoba who scored two goals in his debut. Paul Zammit also misses Gozo born Shaun Bajada and nineteen year old Rowen Muscat. After last week’s heavy defeat, will Manuel Bartolo be in the starting line up?

Just one game is being played on Saturday between sixth placed Floriana and fifth placed Qormi, both of teams having 7 points after five games. This game is being played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium at 15:00 and transmitted live on Malta Stars. Todor Raykov’s squad has to bounce back after earn just one point against bottom placed Vittoriosa. The Bulgarian has no selection problems and starts as favourite against Stephen Azzopardi’s squad. Qormi also aim to collect more points after another good result last weekend against more quoted Sliema Wanderers.

On Sunday Tarxien Rainbows clash against fourth placed Sliema Wanderers at 14:00 at the Corradino Stadium. Tarxien have to start collecting more points to repeat last season’s success following their back to back defeats against Qormi and leaders Valletta. The Rainbows have no selection problems and, with Daniel Mariano Bueno back on target, he can be an inspiration for the rest of the squad. Mark Marlow’s squad missed the chance to climb up to second place after their lacklustre performance against Qormi. Both squads have no selection problems and they will aim for the full three points.

Vittoriosa Stars

The derby of the south, Hibs v Vittoriosa, will take place after thirteen years at 16:00 at the Corradino Stadium. A must win situation for Mark Miller after only collecting two points from the last four encounters and suffering a 4-3 defeat last Sunday against Hamrun. The former u/21 National coach has to cope without the influencial Zoran Levnaic and towering defender Adrian Pulis. Winston Muscat will aim to collect more points and the Stars have no selection problems.

On Monday league leaders Valletta face surprise package Marsaxlokk. The Citizens start as favourites against the Division one champions Marsaxlokk. Jesmond Zerafa might still be without captain Gilbert Agius and defender Kenneth Scicluna but welcomes back Nigerian Temile after he missed last Saturday’s 5-2 win against Tarxien Rainbows. The Southsiders, still unbeaten like the Citizens, have nothing to loose and will aim to collect more points to secure an early championship berth. Patrick Curmi has a full squad at his disposal and again hopes for another stunning performance from Alfred Effiong on Monday night. Jamie Pace and Kevin Sammut will play against their former team after guiding them to there historic 2006/2007 championship under now Valletta president Victor Sricha.
