The MFA said in a statement that players Roderick Fenech, Gianluca Calabretta and Massimo Grima will be charged over their alleged involvement in confrontation with other players with the intention of influencing or changing the result of football matches in an anti-sporting manner during the 2012/13 season.

The association also said it was also issuing a charge against Elton Borg and Julian Friggieri, who sat on the Spartans committee at the time of the alleged facts, as well as for their involvement in confrontation with other players with the intention of influencing or changing the result of football matches in an anti-sporting manner during the 2012/13 season.

Moreover, the association is also issuing a charge against Hamrun Spartans FC because of the alleged involvement in these cases of two of their committee members.

The MFA’s statement added that the three players and the two officials have been temporarily suspended from all football activities with immediate effect according to the rules of the association. They will remain suspended until the competent boards of the MFA announce their decisions on the corruption allegations made above.

The MFA also said that it has instructed its officials and employees not to comment on these cases till the process comes to an end.
