Nescafé Dolce Gusto is sponsoring the sixth edition of the Malta Golf Association (MGA) Shield. The competition, which is one of the highlights in the Royal Malta Golf Club’s (RMGC) calendar of events, will take place between 8th and 11th of November.

The Nescafé Dolce Gusto MGA shield is open to RMGC Members holding a valid golf handicap. The Ladies tournament will be held on Thursday 8th November whilst the Men’s Tournament will take place on Saturday 10th November. The final is scheduled for Sunday 11th November.

The prize presentation will be held during lunch  following the last round of the competition.

The first two editions that were played in 2007 and 2008 were won by Tony Vella and Nigel Hall – both seasoned golfers. In 2009 Jutta Klotz became the first female to win the tournament. The last two editions were then won by juniors. John Micallef Straface who in 2010 was only 14 years of age and Quint Van Beek at 15 years was last year’s winner.

William Beck, MGA President said: “As in previous years, we expect a high turnout and we owe this to our sponsors Nescafé Dolce Gusto, as well as to the invaluable assistance from my colleagues on the MGA Executive Council and the committee members of Royal Malta Golf Club”.

“Despite its 125 years of local history, in reality the Maltese only started to enjoy the game during the last 30 years or so. In fact, it is only the second generation of Maltese coming through the game. Our ambition is to take golf to schools and make it a firm part of the educational curriculum. All this, link to our efforts to build a successful national team. In 2009 we participated for the first time as a team in the Mediterranean Games and this year for the first time, we participated for in the world Team Amateur Championships,” he added.

On his part, Naum Janakiev, Country Manager of NestléMaltasaid that Nescafé Dolce Gusto is the official sponsor for the Malta Golf Association for 2012.


“The sport of Golf blends nicely with Nescafé Dolce Gusto’s concept as Golf is an immensely social game where one can chat away between shots and even enjoy coffee or two in the course of a round” Mr Janakiev said.

The overall best net aggregate score from a lady player and from a gentleman player

The overall best net aggregate score from a lady player and from a gentleman player will each receive Nescafé Dolce Gusto prizes and a memento trophy. An additional nine consolation prizes will be awarded.
