The 1st FIAI Young Driver Performance Master Classes Sessions in Malta

Thursday, August 11, 2011, 20:40

The Malta Motorsport Federation with the support of the FIA Institute (FIAI) for Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability and Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (KMS), and with the assistance of the Motor Sports Association UK (MSAUK) as FIA Regional Training Provider (RTP), is organising for the first time the FIA Institute Performance Master Classes planned to be delivered in Malta over 2 Days by FIA RTP Academy coaches.

The Performance Master Classes are designed to help young people to become better competitors.  These classes were developed by the MSAUK in conjunction with the UK Youth Sport Trust, to help young people to become better competitors. The principle of these master classes is common across a range of other sports, but the MSAUK version has been specifically tailored to the needs of motor sport.  Experts from across the sport helped to design the classes, including consultants from the Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone Circuit in the UK.

Applications are open to individual drivers who are aged between 16 and 23 years of age on the 1st September 2011 and who are in current membership of one or more of the Affiliated Member Clubs with the Malta Motorsports Federation.  The workshops offer an introduction to some of the concepts of human performance, and will be delivered in Malta on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September 2011. The content covers a variety of topics including Goal Setting; Nutrition; Determination; Fitness; Creating your team; Communications; Sponsorship; Tactical  and Anti-doping issues.  The course is certificated by the FIA Institute, MMF and MSAUK.

Included within the timetable for the classes will be a session for ‘Racing Parents’ which is open to parents and guardians of eligible participants only.  Parents of a young competitor know how tough it can be.  With a number of varied roles to fulfil, whether as unofficial sponsor, manager, coach, cook, mechanic, or just best friend, it can be tricky getting the balance right.  The Racing Parent session will help parents to avoid some of the common pitfalls and will help to ensure that what they are doing is in the best interests of their child.
