  • TEN PIN BOWLING: MSV Life National League, Week 3
  •  Ramis beat XS Vittel, for edge over champions Fina
  • Win for okmalta.com – continue to drop points

The Summer season of the MSV Life National Bowling league is already three weeks in, and once again the top sports are dominated by the ‘Big Three’, with Ramis currently top with 22 points from 24, new champions Fina second on 20, while okmalta.com are joint third on 16 points alongside Royal Shock. All three were winners in week three with Ramis taking all eight against XS Vittel, Fina winning 2 – 6 against Strike Me, and okmalta.com also taking six in their match against Blitzkrieg. Royal Shock won 6 – 22 against Supreme, and there was a full point victory for The Clan against Turu’s Knights.

Ramis are off to a flying start, only dropping two points from their first three matches, and beating XS Vittel 0 – 8 this week. They shot the series of the week in doing so (2344), easily taking the opening game 742 – 806, and then going four ahead with a closer 778 – 796 game two win. They completed the rout with a 676 – 742 game three win. Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 678, male bowler of the week. Sara Xuereb (XS Vittel) 561, female bowler of the week.

The match between defending champions Fina and Strike Me was a real see-saw of an encounter, starting with a convincing 712 – 786 Fina win in game one, but then followed by a 785 – 716 equaliser for Strike Me in the second of the three-set. That left Fina with a negligible three-pin cushion going into the deciding third game and so the match was anybody’s, however it was Fina who were up to the occasion, picking up a big 715 – 810 win to walk off with a 2 – 6 victory. Justin Caruana Scicluna (Fina), 648. Cynthia Duca (Strike Me), 525.

An apparent lack of consistency has seen okmalta.com drop early points in this new season, but they picked up a majority win against newly promoted Blitzkrieg in week three. They started with a scrappy 692 – 737 defeat in game one, and only improved slightly in the second, winning that more due a poor effort from their opponents rather than on their own merit (715 – 687), to draw level. The pace picked up only a little in the final game, which went 755 – 736 to okmalta.com, for a 6 – 2 match win. Neil Sullivan (okmalta.com), 621. Gunther Micallef Decesare (Blitzkrieg), 564.

The Clan picked up their first victory of the season in style, a good full-pointer against Turu’s Knights, as the latter stumbled to the lowest team series of the night (2058). The Clan would have dropped points against any of the other Division I outfits on the night, but their luck was in as the set progressed entirely in their favour: 738 – 700, 664 – 657, 761 – 701. James Vassallo (The Clan), 567. Claude Camilleri (Turu’s Knights), 524.

Royal Shock opened strongly in the final clash of the week, against Supreme, taking an early advantage with a 779 – 733 game one victory, and quickly doubling it with a 792 – 721 game two win. The tables were then strangely turned for game three, which saw a Supreme fight back, the latter’s 709 – 799 win rewarding them with a two point share of the spoils. Clive Farrugia (Royal Shock), 570. Ernest Agius (Supreme), 554.
