The Div I Match of the Week had to be Fina vs okmalta.com in week six of the MSV Life National League at the SuperBowl, with top team and defending champions Fina pulling off an excellent 8 – 0 victory to further hinder their opponents’ title challenge, albeit at this rather early stage of the season. Ramis stayed within four points of the Leaders thanks to their own full point victory over Supreme, and there was another 100% for XS Vitel against Strike Me. Elsewhere there was a majority victory (3 – 5) for Royal Shock over The Clan, while the match between Turu’s Knights and Blitzkrieg ended in a four-all draw.

Fina have no dropped just four points from a potential 48 in their latest title defence, winning all six matches including this week’s clash with arch rivals, okmalta.com. They opened with a 784 – 742 game one victory, and then went four up thanks to a big 839 – 795 game two win. Game two fell 822 – 779 to Fina to complete the whitewash against an okmalta.com, who were surely frustrated at suffering such a heavy defeat in spite of a very good team performance. Kenneth Arpa (Fina), 682. Dennis Mercieca (okmalta.com), 609.

Ramis are challenging for the top spot, and played the second best series of the week (2394) to bag all eight points against Supreme. The latter posed little threat all through the three game series, which progressed: 788 – 707, 781 – 747, 825 – 669 all in favour of second placed Ramis, as Supreme drop to ninth after their big loss. Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 683, male bowler of the week. Frans Vella (Supreme), 531.

XS Vitel picked up a very useful 100% victory over Strike Me in week six, pulling themselves out of the drop zone with the positive result. Game one could have swung either way, but went to XS Vitel by a mere four pins (733 – 729), and they then doubled their lead with another close shave in the second, 777 – 767 the score line). Strike Me were just 14 pins down on the series after two, and looking for a decent win to force the draw in game three, but it was XS Vitel’s night as they also narrowly won that one, 699 – 693 to make sure of all eight. Sara Xuereb (XS Vitel), 602. Cynthia Duca (Strike Me), 625, female bowler of the week.

Royal Shock were the eventual winners of their week six clash with The Clan, but suffered an early defeat by the narrowest of margins as they lost the opener 743 – 742. The Clan then stumbled to a poor 652 effort in game two, allowing the Shockers to level things with an easy 652 – 734 win. The two sides then traded frames throughout the last of the set, which ended in a 697 – 697 tie, for a 3 – 5 Royal Shock match win. Clive Farrugia (Royal Shock), 582. Nicholas Mangion (The Clan), 532.

The final confrontation of the week between Turu’s Knights and Blitzkrieg ended in a 4 – 4 tie, and it was Blitzkrieg who drew first blood with a 697 – 751 opening victory. Game two was a lot closer with the Knights clinching a 669 – 553 equalizer, their opponents holding a 48 pin advantage going into the deciding third game. Turu’s managed to win that one 747 – 704, meaning Blitzkrieg held onto the series point by just five pins, for the draw (2113 – 2118). Tiziana Carannante (Turu’s Knights), 523. Matthew Gingell Littlejohn (Blitzkrieg), 540.
