  • Flurry of ‘Perfect’ games for Caruana Scicluna, Muscat, Spiteri

The current season of the Cisk Lager Doubles League has progressed well into its second round, with 15 from a total of 22 weeks now completed. There are eleven teams competing in this the third annual season of this handicap league, all vying for a share of the €4,000 cash prize fund.

Okmalta.com are the current league leaders after showing a marked improvement during round two, and have  climbed to the top spot on 76 points, overtaking previous leaders and 2014 champions Fina and also Ala Turca who are joint second on 74. Ramis Valletta currently hold fourth place, although they are on a level pegging with Split Personalities with 66 points.

Okmalta.com took over at the top thanks to an 8 – 0 drubbing of J Grima & Co in week 15, as Fina could only manage a 4 – 4 tie against Split Personalities. Ala Turca stayed right on their heels by also taking all eight from their important clash with Ramis Valletta. Elsewhere there was another full point win for The BBs against Keglers, while the match between Racedeck and ‘1 & 3’ ended in another four-all draw.

  • 300-games Galore

The lane/oil program selected for the Cisk Lager Doubles is an enjoyable one for players of all levels, and the high scoring pace this season certainly reflects that. In fact, while ‘perfect’ 300-games were still a rarity just a few years ago, the current Doubles season has seen no less than three of these much coveted sporting achievements.

The first 300 game went to Justin Caruana Scicluna in the very first match of the season, second game, and he went on to complete a great 743 series (3 games), winning the match against J Grima & Co. 2 – 6, along with partner on the night, Mark Muscat. Justin is Malta’s most prolific 300-game bowler, with no less than seven competitive 300s during his still flourishing career.

Numbers two and three then came both together in week 13. First up was Mark Spiteri (Split Personalities), who bagged is fourth career 300 in the opening game against Racedeck, to then complete a personal 707 and a 6 – 2 match victory with teammate Neil Bergin.

Then there was a first-time 300 for Mark Muscat in game three of Fina’s encounter with ‘1 & 3’, to complete an excellent 755 set (220 – 235 – 300), and win the match 0 – 8, aided by a great 723 effort from playing partner Justin Caruana Scicluna.

The Cisk Lager Doubles League happens every Tuesday at the Eden SuperBowl, starting at 1945hrs, and spectators are more than welcome.
