Monumental victory for okmalta.com, over arch rivals Fina

First win of the season for Malta International Airport

Week four of the MSV Life National League saw top team okmalta.com continue their flawless winning streak, with a truly historic full point victory over their arch rivals and defending champions, Fina. Ramis also took all eight from their clash with Blitzkrieg, while there were majority victories elsewhere for Pin Strikers against Royal Shock, XS against Supreme, and also for Malta International Airport over Turu’s Knights, their first victory of the season.

Top billing in week four definitely went to the clash between top side okmalta.com and Fina, and produced a formidable performance from the league leaders, who took all eight points in blistering style, with a 2581 team tally. Okmalta.com opened with a massive 919 – 784 game one win, and then went four up thanks to an 828 – 802 win in the second. A final win of 834 – 801 sealed the whitewash for okmalta.com, to leave losers Fina more than a little frustrated having actually played the second highest series of the night on 2387. Rankin Camilleri was top among the okmalta.com stars with a 691 set (male Bowler of the Week). Justin Caruana Scicluna (Fina), 663.

Ramis remain six behind the leaders after also scooping all eight points against Blitzkrieg this week, the losing side dropping to the foot of the table with the heavy defeat. Blitzkrieg were never really in the game as they went down 639 – 776 in the opener, and were soon at a four point disadvantage thanks to their poor 609 – 686 game two loss. Ramis rounded off the drubbing with a 633 – 748 win in the third. Philip Gruppetta (Ramis), 573. Gunther Micallef Decesare (Blitzkrieg), 561.

Malta International Airport finally picked up a win in week four, a 6 – 2 result over Turu’s Knights to lift themselves just off the bottom of the table. They started with a relatively easy 771 – 718 opening win, and then doubled up with a tighter 752 – 732 win in the second. MIA’s game then slipped in third, to allow Turu’s Knights a foot in the door, and a 690 – 727 consolatory win. Aaron Belli (Malta International Airport), 582. Melissa Swift (Turu’s Knights), 608, female Bowler of the Week.

XS have managed to improve to third place, thanks in part to Fina’s misfortunes but also to their 6 – 2 victory against Supreme. XS got off to an excellent start, winning the first of the series 836 – 762, and then practically claimed the match as their own with a 795 – 713 game two win, which put them a significant 156 pins ahead on the series. That cushion would come in very handy, as Supreme then battled back for a good 718 – 808 game three winner, but lost out on the series draw by 66 pins (2349 – 2283). Sara Xuereb (XS), 562. Benny Hili (Supreme), 583.

Pin Strikers also walked away with six points at the expense of a struggling Royal Shock side. It was a scrappy display from both outfits, with Royal Shock grabbing the early lead with their 700 – 650 game one victory. Their lead was short lived however, as Pin Strikers responded with a 666 – 790 equalizer, and then took the match with a 692 – 723 game three decider. Shaun Montanaro (Pin Strikers), 612. Pierre Yves Galea (Royal Shock), 515.
