  • Ramis prevail over champions Fina in headline clash
  • Okmalta.com thrash Turu’s Knights win to extend lead

While week eleven of the MSV Life National Bowling League saw leaders okmalta.com stretch their Div I lead to twelve points, thanks to an 8 – 0 thrashing of Turu’s Knights, the match of the week between Ramis and outgoing champions Fina saw a 6 – 2 victory for the former. XS were also 6 – 2 winners against struggling Blitzkrieg, while there were useful full point victories for Supreme against bottom side Pin Strikers, and Royal Shock against Malta International Airport.

The Ramis vs Fina clash took top billing in week eleven, with defending champions Fina only just snatching the early lead with a very tight 854 – 860 game one win. Then it was all square after two as Ramis bounced back with a 790 – 745 victory to take a modest 39 pin cushion into the deciding third game, which they went on to win 900 – 837 for a 6 – 2 victory. Philip Gruppetta (Ramis), 711. Sue Abela (Fina), 659.

Top team and title favourites okmalta.com made short work of opponents Turu’s Knights this week, shooting the best team series of the week (2658) in a deserved 8 – 0 victory. It was set to be a high scoring encounter from the start, as okmalta.com took the opener 901 – 820, followed by a good 874 – 831 win in the second. Okmalta.com rounded off their superb set with an 883 – 747 final win to make sure of all eight points. Mauro Anastasi (okmalta.com), 728. Tiziana Carannante (Turu’s Knights), 671.

XS remain 16 points shy of the top three, but leapfrogged Turu’s Knights into fourth place with a 6 – 2 victory over Blitzkrieg in a rescheduled encounter. The first game could easily have gone either way, but fell 796 – 773 to the eventual victors, and XS then went 4 – 0 up with a 750 – 711 game two win. Blitzkrieg then came back in the final game, taking it 768 – 794 for their two point share. Tiziana Xuereb (XS), 661. Vincent Micallef Decesare (Blitzkrieg), 611.

Supreme made a big step towards top flight survival with a 0 – 8 victory over Pin Strikers this week. The losers appear destined for the drop and season’s end, and had little to offer as the three-set progressed 677 – 767, 681 – 706, 640 – 773, all in favour of their opponents. Supreme have improved to sixth place, while Pin Strikers stay rooted to the foot of the table on just 19 points. Benny Hili (Supreme), 579.

It was 0 – 8 again in the final clash of the week, with grateful winners Royal Shock now able to breathe a little easier, as the win pushes them further ahead of the drop zone. The result puts them above their unfortunate opponents, Malta International Airport who just six points clear of the relegation places. It was Royal Shock all the way as the game scores ran: 696 – 886, 752 – 791, 811 – 877. Clive Farrugia (Royal Shock), 653. Charles Galea (MIA), 552.
