Okmalta.com take 8 against Malta International Airport to stay level

Current Div I leaders Fina produced another magnificent performance in week three of the MSV Life National League, easily toppling The Clan in a 0 – 8 score line with a massive 2652 series. Okmalta.com are level with Fina on 24 points after taking all eight points from Malta International Airport to also maintain a 100% win record. Royal Shock were big winners in the third full point victory of the week over Bello Aluminium, while there was a 6 – 2 win for Ramis against Supreme. The clash between J Grima & Co and Turu’s Knights ended with an equal share of the points for both.

Fina shot the highest team series of the season to date in their demolition of The Clan in week three, finishing on 2652. A four-man broadside saw Fina cruise to a 716 – 924 opening win, and then they went four ahead with another fine win in game two, 764 – 878 the score. The Clan put together a very good 800 effort on game two, a score that would probably earn them two points nine times out of ten, but an 850 from the impressive Fina side put paid to that. Sue Abela was on fire for the winners, shooting a brilliant 705 set (238-252-215), while her son, Justin Caruana Scicluna shot a massive 686 (239-232-215). Nick Mangion (The Clan), 561).

Defending champions okmalta.com are also on a maximum 24 points after three weeks, second to Fina only on total pins. Their third consecutive whitewash came to the detriment of Malta International Airport who are now lying bottom of the classification. MIA started brightly with a 756 effort, but were bested by an 807 from their opponents. There would be yet more disappointment for them in game two, which okmalta.com managed to snatch with a 796 – 871 score line. Game three then fell 721 – 790 to the champions, to round off the victory. Mauro Anastasi (okmalta.com), 674. Aaron Belli (Malta International Airport), 576.

Royal Shock came into their week three clash with Bello Aluminium on the back of two majority victories in their opening fixtures, and this time made sure of a full-point win. They went ahead with a sound 780 – 728 game one win, before improving to an 819 – 676 win in the second to make it 4 – 0. Game three was a lot tighter, with Royal Shock clinching it by just four pins (734 – 730) to claim all eight. Pierre Yves Galea (Royal Shock), 596. Stephanie Said (Bello Aluminium), 545.

There was also a 6 – 2 victory over Supreme for Ramis, who have started their campaign rather slowly, but lie fifth on 14 points. The early advantage was theirs thanks to a 783 – 759 initial win, but it was soon all square, and extremely close as Supreme responded with a 749 – 781 game two leveller. It was Ramis who then turned the series in their favour, with a 764 – 732 game three clincher, bagging the series points by 24 pins (2296 – 2272). Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 622. Helenio Grech (Supreme), 601

J Grima & Co picked up their first points of the season this week, uprooting themselves from the foot of the table with a 4 – 4 draw against Turu’s Knights. In fact, it looked very much like J Grima & Co would register their first match win of the season as they took the first game 769 – 767, and then the second 791 – 757 to go four ahead. But then in an unexpected turn of events, they dropped to a poor 680 in the last of the series, as an excellent 829 winner from Turu’s Knights tipped the series in the latter’s favour and force the draw (2240 – 2353). Benny Hili (J Grima & Co), 538. Melissa Swift (Turu’s Knights), 594.
