The top three Division I teams all picked up wins in week twelve of the MSV Life National League, although Fina’s lead was cut by two pins as they dropped a game in their clash with bottom side, The Clan. Ramis and okmalta.com picked up 100% wins against Supreme and Malta International Airport respectively, while there was a 2 – 6 win for Royal Shock against Bello Aluminium. Turu’s Knights improved on their recent poor form, picking up an equal share of the points against J Grima & Co.

Title favourites Fina looked set to pick up yet another crushing victory against relegation threatened The Clan, getting off to a flying start with a convincing 862 – 766 game one win. Neither side could have predicted what happened next, as the league leaders dropped to a very poor 717 in game two, allowing The Clan to get a foot in with their winning 743 effort to go level. After Fina’s costly slip the status quo was then restored in the last of the set, as they picked that up 785 – 747 for a 6 – 2 match win. Justin C Scicluna (Fina), 655, male bowler of the week. Clayton Zammit (The Clan), 577.

Ramis stay in second place, but pulled Fina’s advantage back to fourteen points, thanks to their 0 – 8 win over Supreme. The latter weren’t too far out of the competition in first game of the set, losing it by a modest 22 pins (749 – 771), but then they were 0 – 4 down after game two which fell 730 – 759 to Ramis. The difference between the two outfits was clearer in the last of the set, which fell 699 – 806 to Ramis for all eight points. Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 648. Helenio Grech (Supreme), 562.

Okmalta.com also faced a relegation candidate team in Malta International Airport in week twelve, and also came away with a 100% victory to aid their staggering title retention campaign. Their opponents seemed unable to put up a decent fight as the opening game went 745 – 676 to the defending champions, and it was soon 4 – 0 as okmalta.com took the second game 735 – 682. Those winning scores were nothing to write home about, but they did manage to improve to a more convincing 805 – 754 win in the third to complete the whitewash. Mauro Anastasi (okmalta.com), 627. Steve Cassar (MIA), 527.

Royal Shock came out on the better end of the 2 – 6 score line resulting from their clash with Bello Aluminium this week to stay fourth, although that may be the highest position they aspire to this season, as they are currently 20 points down on third place. The won the tight opening game 725 – 734, but then Bello Aluminium managed to equalize in game two, which was even closer at 729 – 722. There was barely anything in it going into the all-important decider, which produced a much more comfortable 713 – 809 win for Royal Shock for the match. David Fenech (Royal Shock), 582. Nicholas Zahra (Bello Aluminium), 526.

Turu’s Knights could only manage a 4 – 4 tie against J Grima & Sons, but were surely glad of the equal share of the points after a dreadful run of four straight defeats prior to the week twelve encounter. It was a hefty 794 – 655 game one win that saved the Knights’ blushes however, as J Grima & Co then came back to win the middle game 717 – 767, and then the last of the set 714 – 717. That meant that Turu’s Knights held on to the series points by 86 pins (2225 – 2139), and so force the draw. Benny Hili (J Grima & Co), 584. Tiziana Carannante (Turu’s Knights). 606, female bowler of the week.
