Team Greens define odds to win Team Time TrialThursday, March 9, 2017, 18:25
Team Greens emerged victorious during the team time trial challenge held on the coast road late last month. Greens resisted the fierce challenge of Mosta CC and The Cyclist CC to win the race with a 7 second margin.
Teams of three or four riders were set off at two-minute intervals to cover a distance of 30km along the bahar ic-caghaq coast road. The leading cycling clubs fielded their best riders in order to challenge for victory
The battle was indeed tight, till the very last lap with Mosta leading with a 3 second advantage into the final lap. Team Greens once again showed their mettle in this discipline with Etienne Bonello, James Mifsud, Michael Camilleri and Jeffrey Borg to turn the result in their favour in the final kilometres edging Mosta by 7 seconds with The Cyclist CC formation finishing a further 12 seconds away from Mosta.
Team Greens also claimed the honours in the female 2-team time trial with Michele Vella Wood and Maire Claire Aquilina, who beat a mixed Mosta/The Cyclist team with a considerable margin.
‘We still cannot believe we managed to pull this off!, only yesterday our participation was in jeopardy after me and James have been hit by a car during training’, said Bonello. “Today’s race was not as smooth ,me and James were both nursing injuries. Jeffrey Borg was sick all week and could not manage the whole distance whilst Michael hung in there till the very end. explained Bonello.
Team Manager and Race Director Frank Dimech had words of praise for his riders. “We were uncertain whether they would have been able to perform to their potential after yesterday’s accident, This shows the depth of our team and the strength of our riders” concluded Dimech.
The Team Time Trial was organised with the assistance of the Malta Cycling Federation, Arrts Electronic Timing, Go&Fun, Garmin Malta, BBB Bike Parts and Buff Headwear.
The next road race will be held on Zebbug bypass this Sunday organized by Mosta Cycling Club.
