Tanti and Calleja to officiate European ChampionshipsThursday, April 5, 2012, 10:11
Two of the international volleyball referees, Mr. Frankie Tanti and Mr. Nello Calleja, have been appointed to officiate in a number of European Championship matches during the forthcoming months.
Mr. Frankie Tanti will be the neutral referee at the Final Round of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Women for the Small Countries Division, to be played in Cyprus over this Easter weekend. Mr. Tanti will be officiating three matches during this final tournament, namely Scotland – Cyprus, Cyprus – Liechtenstein and Luxembourg – Cyprus. Besides Mr. Tanti, there will be another four referees at this tournament, coming from the four participating countries.
Later on in the year, two qualification rounds from the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championships, this time for the Senior national teams in the Small Countries Division, will be played in Malta. Mr. Nello Calleja has been appointed to represent Malta in the Men’s competition, to be played at the Cottonera Sports Complex between the 25th and 27th May 2012. Besides the local side, Cyprus, Iceland, Monaco and San Marino will be taking part in this qualification tournament. Mr. Calleja will be one of a team of eight referees who have been appointed to officiate in this event.
Another five national senior teams will be competing in the qualifying round of the Women’s competition of the same 2013 CEV Senior Volleyball Championships to be played in Malta, representing Cyprus, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Scotland and Malta. This tournament, which will be played in the second half of June, will see Mr. Frankie Tanti as one of the referees, representing the local association.
