Table Tennis Academy Malta players excel in local and foreign competitions

Another table tennis season has begun withTable Tennis AcademyMalta once again having a brilliant start with its students excelling in local and foreign competitions.

During the first Junior Ranking Tournament organized by the MTTA, Matteo Mizzi placed as runner up in the Under 13 singles event and also won the plate event in the Under 15 with Marcus Portelli winning the event.TableTennisAcademystudents Steve Bugeja and Andrea Portelli were semi finalists in the Under 18 singles event with Andrew Gambina placing as runner up. Nikolai Mercieca won the Under 18 plate event with Lachezar Penev placing as runner up.

The Second MTTA Junior Ranking was also a great one for Table Tennis Academy students. The tournament started with Dylan Zammit placing as runner up for the Under 13 singles event and Matteo Mizzi as a semi finalist. The plate was won by Ryan Paul Camilleri. The runner up for the Under 15 singles event was Andrea Portelli with Matteo Mizzi winning the plate event wile Andrew Gambina placed as a runner up for the Under 18 event.

In the second Senior Ranking Tournament also exhibited good performances. In the plate event, James Camilleri and Marcus Portelli placed as winner and runner up respectively.

In the National league 2011/12 one finds five strong Academy teams in all divisions.

TTAM students were also recently chosen to participate in foreign competitions. Four players fromMaltawent to compete in the Cyprus Open. Three of these players who are part of TTAM are: Andrea Portelli and Ryan Tabone as the Junior’s Team and Andrew Gambina as part of the Senior’s Team. The highlight of the games was the match between Malta Junior’s Team and Cyprus Junior’s Team with our players winning 3-1.

During Christmas holidays the Academy is targeting to recruit new talent and is seeking children that are willing to excel in the fastest game that is represented at the Olympics.
